The ensemble is in the process of relocating to the unique Fort Point neighborhood. For the past year or so, the orchestra has been on hiatus. Music Director Paul Dulude was guest conducting in Mexico and spent a fair amount of time in Europe. The long-term presence of artists in Fort Point - then and now - together with the dawning prospect of the area's becoming the vibrant Mecca for a substantial arts community that will include a wide range of performing arts as well, is very exciting. The visual artists who have called this remarkable community their home for so many years have created the bedrock beginning of this unique neighborhood's true renaissance.
Boston Virtuosi are working with many of the organizations and Stakeholders in the area to create opportunities for a real contribution to the neighborhood. Communities are exceptionally supportive of arts groups when they can truly call them their own. As our concert series evolves, we look forward to multimedia collaboration with the wonderfully talented artists who have made Fort Point Channel such a special, creative place. Boston Virtuosi cellist Cameron Sawzin is a new resident of the Fort Point Channel Community and has enjoyed meeting and connecting with the new and long time residents of the district. The creative team is working to create a unique Fort Point performing arts identity. The concert series will offer an experience unlike anything else in Boston. Spring and summer concerts and dates will be announced soon!
The first series of concerts Boston Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will bridge, and reflect the many threads of South Boston’s unique neighborhoods. A FORT POINT TAPESTRY will be the first of many events designed to integrate the area’s multi-disciplined visual arts talent with concert music.
We will use images of the well-known and loved bridges and other landmarks in the area to design a collectable art poster, and are working with Fort Point artists to gather ideas for this project.
The first event is designed to create a soundscape of this richly diverse community. We are focusing on music that lends itself to visual images, because we will invite 3 artists to collaborate on a live free form art piece during the performance. They will put on canvas what they hear, bringing new meaning to “performance art”.
A curated gallery will be open before and after the concert, as well as during intermission. Fort Point Artists will be able to exhibit and sell their work at this venue.
Our mission for Ft. Point Channel
* Programs: As a supplement to our regular concerts, we would like to initiate
a series of lecture concerts for adult learning programs. This will compliment the
compelling and accessible thrust of our performances. Some of our programs focus on
new and less well-known works and composers, but never at the expense of core repertoire.
Education/Outreach:: We hope to put into effect a substantive collaboration with schools in South Boston. Eventually, we intend to select students who will be given an opportunity to perform with Boston Virtuosi members in some of our Fort Point area concerts.
Our programming ranges from Haydn to World Music, to newly commissioned works, but invariably back to the heart of our classical repertoire. We invite the multimedia artists with whom all of us share this special place to come to us with their ideas. Fort Point is a community of people who love the arts. Residents and artists cannot help but create an exciting, evolving environment by their association with one another. The Boston Virtuosi intend to become a catalyst and partner in this proces
Preface from the Boston Foundation Study, “Understanding Boston”
Arts and culture bring a great city to life. Artists and cultural institutions attract
new investments and new residents, and so catalyze the growth of our neighborhoods and
our regional economy. Millions of visitors come to Boston each year to see our historic
sites, hear our fine orchestras, visit our renowned museums, and make tourism one of our
leading industries. Cultural organizations of all sizes and types—large art and science
museums, mid-sized theater companies and orchestras, and small visual arts organizations
or choral groups— teach and inspire young people and help us bridge differences among
our diverse population. As adults, our encounters with the arts have the power to transform
us, prompting us to see, hear and think in new ways.

We look forward to a long and productive relationship with this community.
